Graham had its chances on Urbana’s home field to end the season with a bang on Friday, but the Hillclimbers were too much by the end of the night.

UHS beat its intra-county rival, 52-12, in CBC cross-divisional action littered with yellow flags. Both teams finish the season 2-8 overall.

Urbana opened the scoring on a Preston Shields 13-yard run at 10:17 of the first quarter followed by Cooper Johnson’s PAT to make it 7-0. The Hillclimbers’ second touchdown was sparked by partially blocking a Graham punt, setting up the home team at the Falcon 30. Four plays later, Shields completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Herbie Jackson with 8:40 left in the first quarter. Johnson’s extra-point kick was accurate, giving UHS a 14-0 lead.

Urbana scored again in the first period when Jackson ran 2 yards for a TD at 6:31. The conversion run failed, leaving UHS comfortably ahead, 20-0 – a margin that held until the second quarter.

Urbana intercepted Graham in the middle of a solid drive, but the Falcons recovered a Hillclimber fumble on the next play. The Falcons converted two fourth downs on the way to their first TD at 9:42, a 9-yard pass from Gage Braun to Tyler Powell. John Hess’s PAT was unsuccessful, but the visitors were on the board, 20-6.

Graham controlled the ball for most of the second quarter, ultimately scoring on a Braun 1-yard plunge. The conversion run failed, leaving UHS ahead, 20-12. Urbana added a comfort score when Jackson plowed into the end zone from 5 yards out. Johnson ran in the lateral pitch for the conversion run and UHS led 28-12 at the half.

Urbana scored in the third quarter on a Shields 33-yard dash capped off by a conversion run to make it 36-12. Shields scored in the final period on a 6-yard TD plunge followed by a Derek Cauley conversion run for a 44-12 lead, and Nick Johnson had a TD run to go along with a two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter to provide the final margin of victory.
