The 16th-ranked Urbana University men’s soccer team skated past Concord, 7-0, in Mountain East Conference action Thursday at UU Stadium. Three Blue Knights scored twice during an impressive display that ended up as the highest number of UU goals scored in a contest since joining NCAA Division II in 2010.

Less than 10 minutes into the game, Raphael Northoff (Ahlen, Germany) scored back-to-back goals within a minute of each other to give UU a rapid start. Northoff’s first goal was a thing of beauty as he bent a left-footed strike 40-plus yards to the top right shelf on a free kick. Just 69 seconds later, Northoff toed a perfect cross from David Veauthier for a one-touch goal on the left side of the box.

UU’s speed and precision took over from there, proving to be overwhelming for the visiting Mountain Lions.

Not to be outdone, Thibaut Bourrier also found the back of the net twice in the first half to keep hold of the team’s leading goal-scorer title. In the 20th minute, Bourrier played a beautiful lob pass from Ebenezer Agyeman into the box, and one-touched his first goal to the left corner past the keeper. Bourrier then converted a breakaway in the 24th minute after working his way past the keeper to score for the fourth time this year.

UU (3-1-1, 1-1 MEC) took the 4-0 lead into the break following a 9-1 advantage in shots. UU outshot CU 15-4 and held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks. Goalkeeper Nathan Jones recorded one save before being pulled in the second frame.

Seven reserves saw action, including Connor Kerr, Trevor Adams, Ray Roberts, Jake Wischmeier, Marcus Fallenbeck, Jasminko Dizdarevic and Mitchel Kayalar.

Roberts took over in the later minutes with a pair of goals, one of which featured another assist from Agyeman’s ball control. Wischmeier connected on a header delivered by Northoff on a corner kick in the 76th minute.

The Blue Knights will now turn their attention to Sunday’s road contest at Notre Dame College. The crucial conference matchup will begin at 1 p.m. in South Euclid, Ohio.
