Clancy Brown stars in Marathon bombing movie

Urbana native Clancy Brown has recently been in Boston shooting the movie “Stronger,” which is based on the book of the same name written by Jeff Bauman.

Bauman lost his legs but survived the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, and helped to identify the assailants.

Brown plays Bauman’s father in the movie. Bauman is being played by Jake Gyllenhaal.

“Great story. Great person. I play his dad. It’s a tough role,” said Brown.

Some scenes were shot at Fenway Park, and Brown had an opportunity to meet former Red Sox star pitcher Pedro Martinez.

Brown was in attendance when Martinez made his major-league debut for the Dodgers versus the Reds in Los Angeles in 1992.

“I wanted to ask him about the Reggie Sanders scuffle but he’s such a celebrity here in Boston, I was lucky to talk to him at all,” said Brown.

Brown said he has also been doing a lot of publicity for his upcoming movie “Warcraft,” a potential blockbuster which opens on June 10.

“Warcraft” is based on the video game “World of Warcraft.”

“I hope it does well. I had a great time doing it,” he said.

Trivia Time – Urbana native Pete Dye had a better score in the 1957 U.S. Open than Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.

This week’s question – Clancy Brown co-starred in a movie about Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis. What was the title of the movie?
