WL-S girls in 2nd place at OHC track meet

SPRINGFIELD – The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team is currently in second place in the team standings after day one of the Ohio Heritage Conference Track and Field Championships. Mechanicsburg is currently leading with 33 points, followed by WL-S with 22 points. The Tigers had two first-place winners, with Janie Kopus winning pole vault (8-0) and the 4×800 relay team of Katie Hartsel, Kaylee Harrison, Jenna Magnuson and Leah Cole (10:53.41) taking the top spot. Magnuson also chipped in a 5th place finish in discus (87-03).

Finals will be held Thursday at Northeastern.

For the Tiger boys, the 4×800 relay team (Adams, Esch, I. Smith, Conley) placed 2nd in 8:52.71.

Brandon Wolfe placed 4th in the long jump (19-0.5) and Christian Parker was 6th (17-4.5-). Parker also qualified for Thursday’s finals in the 300 hurdles and 100 meter dash.

LaPalma beat Triad’s American Legion team, 1-0, in extra innings.

LaPalma’s outstanding players were Lanie Dingledine and Lillian Webb.
