A local man who died Sunday in a crash was identified as Chad Bennett, according to a press release issued Monday.

Deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of West state Route 29 and Church Road in Concord Township at 8:13 p.m. Sunday on a report of a fatal crash.

An initial investigation showed Bennett, 39, of Church Road, was operating a 1998 Honda TRX300 all-terrain vehicle southbound on Church Road and reportedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of state Route 29 and Church Road, striking a 2012 Fiat operated by Clark Martin, of Urbana.

Champaign County Coroner Dr. Joshua Richards responded to the scene and pronounced Bennett dead. Richards stated Monday that Bennett’s body was sent to Montgomery County for autopsy and toxicology analysis.

Clark Martin and Nancy Martin were transported by Urbana and West Liberty EMS squads to Mercy Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Martin was treated and released from the hospital as of Monday afternoon, while Ms. Martin was transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, where she was listed in good condition as of Monday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
