NORTH LEWISBURG – The village council approved a resolution April 12 declaring spring cleanup week May 7-13.

During the regular council meeting, Village Administrator Andy Yoder said the village will place roll-off Dumpsters at the park for residents to dispose of items. A list of items not permitted will be posted along with the times the Dumpsters will be available.

Mayor Cheryl Hollingsworth noted a village-wide yard sale will be May 6-8.

Village to hold another drug takeback day

Yoder said the village is working with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Champaign County Prosecutor’s Office and Champaign County Health District to hold a drug takeback day next month.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 7 to provide residents the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by getting rid of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The event will be held at the municipal building, 60 Maple St.

During a drug drop-off event last year, Yoder said, 22 pounds of medication was collected. He said the entities plan to provide fliers to areas such as Cable, Mingo and Woodstock to give more residents the opportunity to get rid of medications.

The sheriff’s activity report for March states one traffic citation was issued, 16 incident reports were filed, nine arrests were made, 18 follow-up investigations were completed and one auto accident report was taken.

Mosquito spraying

Yoder said the village has contracted with A-1 Able Pest Doctors to fog for mosquitoes. The normal spraying days are Fridays after 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. with the following Saturday being the alternate day in the event of bad weather conditions.

Citizens may want to close windows, shut off air conditioners and take in pets.

The spraying dates for this year are May 6, May 20, June 3, June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29, Aug. 12, Aug. 26, Sept. 9 and Sept. 23.
