UU teams swept by West Va. Wesleyan

Tanner McGrew went for 39 points and also had 15 rebounds to lead West Virginia Wesleyan to an 84-73 win over Urbana University on Saturday evening at the Grimes Center in men’s basketball.

McGrew was 16-of-20 from the floor and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Ja’Shon Johnson added 16 points for the Bobcats (12-8, 7-7). WVWC also got strong performances off the bench with 12 points from Chris Dewberry and 10 from Garrett Grantham. As a team, West Virginia Wesleyan made 28-of-44 from the field (64 percent).

UU (1-18, 0-14) was led by 19 points from Jahmere Howze. Dimitri Abner scored 15 and Mike Newton finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assist for the Blue Knights.

Tara Goldman scored 34 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to help lead West Virginia Wesleyan to a 103-98 win over Urbana University on Saturday at the Grimes Center.

Goldman was 15-of-24 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the line for her 34 points. Eight of her 18 rebounds came on the offensive end. Mari Stewart had 16 points and 15 boards for a double-double, while Allie Browne contributed 20 points. Adrian Cunningham scored 17 points and handed out eight assists for the Bobcats (4-14, 2-12).

WVWC out-rebounded UU by seven, and had 12 more second-chance points than the Blue Knights in the game. The Bobcats had to erase a five-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to pick up the win.

UU (7-11, 6-8) received 29 points from Stefanie Davis in the losing effort. Danie Shafer and Kennedy Boggs each netted 19 points, and Megan Beachy and Jazmyn Haley each scored 13. Haley also had 14 rebounds for the Blue Knights.

The Blue Knight teams return to action on Thursday at West Virginia State.
