Megan Beachy scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and led the Urbana University women’s basketball team to a come-from-behind 88-83 win over Concord inside the Grimes Center on Tuesday.

The UU men’s team was out-scored 22-0 to start the second half and lost, 100-90, in Tuesday’s late game.

The UU women (6-6, 5-3 MEC) trailed by four at halftime and as much as 10 in the third quarter, but a hot-shooting start to the final period led to the comeback. With the win, UU improved to 4-1 on its home floor this season.

Beachy, a true freshman, tied her career-best of 27 points to lead the Blue Knights, while senior guard Kennedy Boggs scored 21 to get within 11 points of 1,000 during her career.

For the second straight game, sophomore forward Jazmyn Haley finished a point shy of a double-double with nine points and career-high 12 boards.

Sophomore Stefanie Davis also chipped in nine points, along with four rebounds and four assists. Freshman duo Danie Shafer and Erin Morrow each registered eight points and four rebounds.

UU struggled shooting in the first half, going 11 of 33 and 5 of 19 on threes, but bounced back to shoot an impressive 57.6 percent in the second half.

UU dominated the paint, 34-16, and took good care of the ball with only 10 turnovers.

Concord (3-10, 2-6 MEC) led 62-52 with 3:09 left in the third quarter, until Morrow sparked the Blue Knights with five points.

Morrow’s 3-pointer at the 1:58 mark cut the deficit to five. Beachy followed up with a pair of free throws on the next possession, and senior Tori Purk closed the quarter with a jumper to make it 63-61 Concord.

UU took over the final stanza with an 11-3 run, which featured eight consecutive made field goals.

Beachy’s trey with 8:29 remaining gave UU the lead for good, but Concord got to within two points on a jumper with 2:19 left. Beachy immediately responded on the other end, though, drilling her fifth three to seal the game.

UU outscored the visitors 27-20 in the fourth quarter.

Concord shot 52 percent from beyond the arc with 13 3-pointers. Emily Boothe and Danielle Catron scored 26 and 24 points, respectively, for the Mountain Lions.

The Blue Knights return to action on Saturday with a road matchup against Shepherd. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
