Rams clip Cards in OHC action

NORTH LEWISBURG – Greeneview took a big lead early in the game Thursday night, but watched it slip away before pulling out a 57-45 win over Triad in OHC girls basketball.

The Rams opened a 16-5 lead after a quarter behind the strength of a couple of three-pointers.

Triad was able to cut into the lead and faced a 21-13 deficit at halftime.

“I’m proud as heck of our team’s effort tonight,” THS Jason Malone said. “I’m really happy for how we played. We executed fairly well tonight.”

The Cardinals were able to cut it to within a pair of baskets in the middle of the third quarter, but the Rams always seemed to respond with a three-pointer or a break-away off a turnover to maintain the advantage.

Greeneview hit nine three-pointers to Triad’s two.

“That’s the difference in the game,” Malone said. “You make shots against our zone and you’re probably going have a good chance to beat us.”

Triad (3-8) remained within striking distance, but Greeneview was just too much.

“When Greeneview moved the ball quickly and they found the open person, they got open looks,” Malone said. “You just kinda take the good with the bad. Greeneview is a really good team. The probably came in thinking they could win by 20 or 30 (points) tonight.”

Jenna Ober led the Cardinals with 17 points and Tori Thomas had 12.

Greeneview had four players score in double-digits for the game.

The Rams won the jayvee game, 41-22. Michelle Cauley had 9 points and Tori Thomas had 7 for the Cardinals.

Triad goes on the road at Northeastern on Saturday.
