A man who pleaded guilty to charges connected with a March 5 robbery at Security National Bank, 828 Scioto St., was sentenced on Tuesday in Champaign County Common Pleas Court to 82 months in prison.

Ryan H. Seibert, 22, of Springfield was sentenced to 11 months for theft, 36 months for robbery, 17 months for receiving stolen property and 18 months for tampering with evidence. These four sentences are to run consecutively. He had pleaded guilty last month to these four felonies.

Seibert donned a stocking over his face on March 5 before approaching bank employees and demanding a bag they were carrying near the outside ATM. He picked up the bag thrown to the ground by an employee and fled in a vehicle driven by Michaela M. Anderson, 19, of Urbana.

A statement filed with the county Municipal Court states Seibert was a teller at the bank before being fired for stealing funds. In March 2014, bank officials learned through audits and interviews that he had stolen $3,208, depositing some of the money into his accounts.

Seibert and Anderson were taken into custody Sept. 23.

Anderson pleaded guilty to a fourth degree felony of attempted robbery charge Nov. 20. She admitted she and Seibert had fled to Columbus, West Virginia and Florida. Earlier this month she was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay $10,587 in restitution to the bank and a $250 fine. The vehicle used in the case was to be forfeited to the Urbana Police Division.

“I want to thank Sgt. Ed Burkhammer and the Urbana Police Department for their hard work in the investigation of this case,” county Prosecutor Kevin Talebi said following the sentencing hearing.

“The defendant acknowledged that this robbery was committed in part in order to help facilitate his drug addiction,” Talebi added. “While I am thankful that this is a crime that is not typical for our community, it is further evidence of how individuals who are immersed in the drug culture are escalating the severity of criminal conduct that we are seeing in our community.”
