The hairy efforts of Champaign County deputies and Champaign County Commons Pleas Domestic Relations Judge Brett A. Gilbert in November went toward a good cause.
Sheriff Matt Melvin said $2,100 was raised during “No Shave November” to assist children in the fight against cancer.
For the entire month, the sheriff’s office staff along with Gilbert chose to stop shaving and grow out their facial hair. As part off this fundraiser, they each donated $40 to benefit children with cancer. The Champaign County Deputies Association also contributed to the money raised.
The sheriff’s office and Gilbert teamed up with Dayton Children’s Hospital and on Dec. 4, Melvin presented a check to the hospital.
“Cancer has affected so many people, not only in the sheriff’s office, but also in our community,” Melvin stated. “This is our way of giving back and making a difference.”
