ST. PARIS – Village residents voted to re-elect Mayor Joseph W. Reneer for four more years during Tuesday’s election.

According to unofficial results, Reneer captured 65.27 percent of the vote while council member Brad Kennedy received 34.73 percent of votes.

Reneer was elected as the village’s mayor in November 2013 and took office in January 2014.

“My biggest bit of gratitude goes to the voters of St. Paris for trusting me enough to re-elect me to serve St. Paris,” Reneer said on Wednesday. “I’ve stated numerous times that the villagers and the people who work in this village are who I work for and who I represent so my biggest thank you goes out to all of those individuals who trusted me enough to continue to represent them.”

Reneer thanked his wife and children for helping through the election.

“I look forward to a great four more years,” Reneer added.

Former village employee receives the most votes

Former village street commissioner Tyler Adkins received the most votes among three candidates in the village council race.

In the race for two council seats, Adkins received 36.53 percent of votes or 331 votes, according to unofficial results. A resident of the village since 1995, Adkins worked as the village’s street commissioner from 2003 until he was terminated in June. He could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

One vote separated current council members Terry W. Ervin II and Niven Jester for the second council seat. Ervin received 288 votes or 31.79 percent of the vote while Jester received 287 votes or 31.68 percent of the vote.

Champaign County Board of Elections Director Kathy Meyer said Wednesday that votes will be certified on Nov. 17. After the votes are certified, Meyer said, the votes would have to be within one half of one percent for an automatic recount to take place.
