Triad, West Liberty-Salem voters approve incumbents to school boards

Voters in the Triad and West Liberty-Salem school districts returned incumbents to school boards in Tuesday’s election.

And, West Liberty-Salem will have a new face on the board.

Triad school board

Triad school board President Chris Millice and Vice President Randy Moore were re-elected to their current spots on the board. Unofficial vote totals were 984 for Millice and 919 for Moore, which includes votes in Union, Logan and Champaign counties. Unofficial votes include absentee ballots, but not provisionals. Millice received 889 votes in Champaign County, 52 in Logan County and 43 in Union County. Moore received 813 votes in Champaign County, 50 in Logan County, and 56 in Union County.

Millice and Moore could not be reached for comment.

Triad had a third open seat – board member Matt McConnell’s seat. McConnell said previously that a candidate petition error kept him off the ballot. He said previously he would be interested in being appointed to the board again. Millice said the school board will seek applications for the open seat.

West Liberty-Salem school board

In West Liberty-Salem, incumbent Chris Moell received 1,215 votes, according to unofficial vote tallies. Newcomer Patrick Adams received 1,310 votes. Moell received 490 votes in Champaign County and 725 in Logan County. Adams received 593 votes in Champaign County and 717 in Logan County. Adams will fill the seat held by board member Jim Hoffman.

“I look forward to serving a second term on West Liberty-Salem’s school board. Thank you to everyone who voted,” Moell said. “I appreciate your trust and will continue to represent the community’s voice in school matters. A strong community is the foundation of a strong school, and we are fortunate to have both in the WL-S district.”

Adams could not be reached for comment.

Unofficial vote tallies indicate 47.7 percent turned out to vote in Logan, 46.5 percent voted in Union, and 48.25 percent voted in Champaign counties.

Official vote tallies will be taken Nov. 17 for Logan, Union and Champaign counties. Those tallies will count provisional ballots.
