City administration will recommend Urbana City Council, during its 7 p.m. meeting today in municipal court chambers, approve the purchase of items benefiting the Sewer Department, Grimes Field and the city’s proposed project to clean up the Q3 JMC Inc.property.
The most expensive item being brought to council for approval involves a purchase order to Southeastern Equipment Company in the amount of $49,995 for the purchase of a 2005 New Holland front-end loader, which is listed at $57,495. If approved, the city will trade in its 1991 Case front-end loader currently valued at $7,500, and the remaining cost will be charged to the Sewer Fund.
In August, council signed off on spending $68,309 on the Hangar Door Replacement Project at Grimes Field. Administration will recommend council approve $2,800 more in expenditures to the Howell Buildings Company for the purchase and installation of custom curved rake trims for the north and south ends of the upper roof of Grimes Hangar.
As for the city’s project aimed at redeveloping the abandoned Q3 JMC Inc. property at 605 Miami St., administration is seeking council’s approval on a purchase order to Hull and Associates Inc. in the amount of $5,734 for technical assistance.
Resolutions/ordinances
Council will hear the third and final reading of an ordinance to amend the city’s official zoning map by rezoning the Dollar Tree property from its current B-1 zoning district in Urbana Township to a B-2 general business zoning district within city limits.
Also scheduled to go to vote following a third reading is a resolution authorizing the director of administration to collaborate with the superintendent of Urbana City Schools to develop an agreement for the joint construction of public infrastructure at the planned site of the pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school facility on Community Drive.
Council is also scheduled to hear the first readings of an ordinance to amend the city’s emergency snow removal ordinance and an ordinance authorizing the director of administration to enter into an indigent defense agreement with the Champaign County Commissioners to allow the city to receive partial reimbursement from the Ohio Public Defender Commission for indigent defense expense in Champaign County Municipal Court.
A resolution authorizing the city engineer to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for funding through the Systematic Signal Timing & Phasing Program will also undergo a first reading.
Two second readings are set to take place, one of which involves a resolution authorizing preliminary approval between the city of Urbana and ODOT for the repair of the bridge on Miami Street that spans over Dugan Run. The other second reading involves an ordinance that would establish Chapter 171 of the city’s codified ordinances and amend Chapter 173 as needed to comply with statewide municipal income tax reform.
