On Saturday, Oct. 24, His Hands Extended Sanctuary, a Humane Society outside St. Paris, sponsored a free rabies vaccine clinic.
“It was our desire to share Christ’s love with fellow animal lovers and help those who might need a little help to afford an important vaccine for their pets’ health care,” Tanya Jordan, sanctuary director, said.
The clinic started at the sanctuary Saturday morning, then traveled to TSC in Urbana for a 1-4 p.m. session. Jordan said she appreciated the store manager allowing the clinic to be set up in the back room.
Many dogs and cats were seen and vaccinated by veterinarian Dr. Kylee Fent, an Urbana resident, who spoke to owners about health issues she observed while giving each animal a pre-vaccination health assessment. Each owner was issued a vaccine certificate, tag and hook, and a vaccine reaction sheet that listed potential reactions to watch for following the vaccine.
Jordan, who worked both venues, said the best moment was when a disabled Vietnam veteran arrived in his wheelchair to have his dog vaccinated.
“I was able to provide this important vaccine for his pet, help him stretch his budget for pet care and give him a big hug and thank him for his service to our country,” she said. “My heart will be smiling for sharing this blessing with this veteran for a long time.”
A private Humane Society, the sanctuary has a small country clinic. Jordan said she and the staff try to help people and pets whenever possible.
“We are thankful we could offer this free vaccine clinic to benefit the animals and owners who attended,” she said. Besides Jordan and Fent, staff members who worked the clinic included Mariann Curl and Amanda Bryan.
