Mechanicsburg Public Library expanding hours

0

Expanded hours are coming to the Mechanicsburg Public Library. Jan. 4, 2016, launches expanded hours of Monday through Friday: open at 10 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Saturday we will open at 10 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. We’ve had many requests to restore some of the hours lost to cutbacks and we feel that we’ve reached a place we can finally do this.

Local funding offers us a cushion against the uncertainties we’ve faced at the state funding level. Now, with some increased funding in the state budget we feel comfortable to invest in opening 16 additional hours each week. The current two-year state budget began July 2015 and provides public libraries with an increase from 1.66 to 1.7 percent of the state’s General Revenue Fund.

We appreciate the support for public libraries shown at the local and state levels. The choices we made for the increased hours are the product of opinions expressed by our community, staff and Board of Trustees. We can’t be open all day every day, but our website and digital resources are available 24/7. We encourage you to visit our online and physical locations for your information needs.

The library is currently open to the public: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday noon-7 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 am-noon.
