WL-S tops Triad in volleyball

West Liberty-Salem defeated Triad, 25-14, 25-18, 25-19, in OHC volleyball on Thursday.

For Triad, Madison Dolby had 5 kills and 8 digs and Allyssa Eaton had 3 blocks, 2 kills and an ace.

The WL-S jayvees won, 25-20, 25-11.

For Triad, Kayleigh Rice had 7 points and 5 digs, Jennifer Sizemore had 7 points and Tori Thomas had 7 digs.

WL-S stats were not provided by press time.

Urbana volleyball tops Greenon

Urbana beat Greenon, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19, in CBC volleyball on Thursday.

Hunter Rogan had 15 kills for the Hillclimbers. Kaelyn Bertsch and Mckenzee Martin each had 10 kills, Olivia Dunham had 19 assists and Macy Pierce had 13 assists and 6 kills.

The UHS jayvee won, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22. Lexi Thomas had 10 kills, Desi Johnson had 9 kills, Hanna Newman recorded 6 digs and Taylor Adams had 14 assists and 10 digs for Urbana.

MHS nets victory

Mechanicsburg defeated Cedarville 16-25, 25-13, 17-25, 25-23, 15-9 in OHC volleyball on Thursday.

Katie Bush had 13 aces and 25 assists, Miranda Lauchard had 13 digs, Emma Dunham had 8 blocks and 8 kills and Mary Mayo recorded 11 kills for MHS (2-2, 2-2).

Tipp girls top Urbana in soccer

Tipp beat Urbana, 2-0, in CBC girls soccer.

For UHS, Sara Lingrell had 17 saves in goal.

“I was very proud of the girls’ effort and determination against one of the better teams in the state,” said Urbana Coach Brandon Deskins. “The defense, led by Lingrell, Emma Burnside, Libby Arnett and Marra Evans, did an excellent job.”

Tigers win in girls soccer

West Liberty-Salem topped Greeneview, 3-0, in OHC girls soccer Thursday.

Gabby Hollar, Annika Wolfe and Lily Yoder each scored for the Tigers. Ashley Rabenstein and Wolfe had assists. Paige Shafer recorded 5 saves in goal.

WL-S (4-1-0) plays at Southeastern on Saturday.

MHS golfers fall to Irish

Catholic Central defeated Mechanicsburg 174-178 in OHC boys golf.

Caleb Westfall shot 37 to lead the Indians. Corey Bogan had a 44, Jack Shoemaker shot 48 and Cody Minor had a 49. Mack Cushman shot a 54 and Austin Wolfe had a 59.

Triad boys win

Triad’s boys golf team (2-7 OHC) defeated Cedarville in OHC golf, 176-206. Triad was led by medalist Alec Ober with a 36, Zach Warner had a 46, Caleb Young a 47, Braxton Perry a 47, Shem Pond a 53 and Austin Bails a 53.

Triad’s girls team defeated Fairbanks’ jayvees in non-league golf, 222-242. Triad was led by medalist Macy Linscott with a 46, Chasity Curton had a 54, Jen Pelfrey a 56 and Jess Woodard a 66.

Urbana girls lose in tennis

Urbana lost to Jonathan Alder, 5-0, in non-league girls tennis.

At first singles, Breanna Holmberg beat Haylee Johns, 6-1, 6-0.

At second singles, Morgan Lattimer lost to Chloe Grove, 6-2, 6-0.

At first doubles, Katie Asper/Bri Ussher lost to Mikayla Holland/Jenna Mink, 6-2, 6-2.

Moore commits to Virginia Tech

Graham senior wrestler Brent Moore, a 2015 state champ, visited Virginia Tech over the weekend and committed to wrestle there next fall.

Graham cross country

The Graham boys cross country team finished fifth at the Buccaneer FOE Invitational last weekend. Carter Callison finished in 7th place with a time of 18:10. The Graham girls placed seventh. Leading the way in 20th place was Katie Powell with a time of 23:36.

Middle school cross country

Urbana’s girls team placed second at a recent meet.

Placers were Bree Stouffer 4th 14:52; Makenna Radford 8th 16:43; Sam Rooney 11th 17:07; Raegan Hepp 22nd 18:52; Grace Hepp 24th 19:29; Jenny Zaborowski 26th 19:51 and Kelsey Hackley 30th 20:36.

Placers for the Urbana boys were Austin Rooney 2nd 13:20; Daniel Westcott 5th 13:41; Roan Dawson 37th 20:13 and Josh Pitzer 44th 30:12.
