WOODSTOCK – News and information concerning the village can now be viewed online at woodstockohio.org after village council approved the domain name during its Aug. 10 meeting.

Fiscal Officer Tom Hallinan informed council the domain names of Woodstock.com and Woodstock.org were already taken, which is why he recommended Woodstockohio.org.

The website features news, notices, contact information, meeting minutes, financial information, village photos and links to historic information about Woodstock.

Hallinan, who wrote the website code and will be maintaining it, said, “It was a fun project, and I learned a lot from it.”

Street lighting saga nears end

In November 2014, village resident James Weidner sent a letter to council requesting a street light be placed on one of the poles in front of his new pole barn at 10695 Urbana Woodstock Pike, a property recently annexed into the village. Council agreed to Weidner’s request, but decided two lights were needed to light the street out to the new corporation limit.

After nine months of researching the matter and working with both Miami Valley Lighting and DP&L, Village Administrator Bradley Herron reported DP&L has approved the installation of two additional street lights (nightguards) on West Bennett Street near Woodstock Cemetery.

Herron noted at a previous council meeting that each street light costs the village roughly $15 a month to operate.

“It’s a street in our village, and it would be nice if it’s lighted like the rest of our streets,” he said.

Herron also informed council that DP&L stated once the two street lights are installed, it will no longer be providing the mounted-arm fixtures that extend over the street, meaning any future installations of these nightguards will have to be handled by another company.

In other business:

•Following a recommendation from Mayor Jackie Hayes, council passed a motion reimbursing council member Beatrice Metz $30 for her notary registration fee. It was noted Metz is a registered notary who uses her registration in large part to notarize village documents.

•A proclamation was read declaring Sept. 17-23 Constitution Week sponsored by DAR. To kick off the celebration, a bell ringing ceremony will take place Sept. 17 at Freedom Grove in Urbana.

•Residents were reminded that the countywide Beggars Night will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
