DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Ohio authorities say after firefighters brought a Montgomery County apartment fire under control they found one person dead inside.
The sheriff’s office says deputies responded about 9 p.m. Thursday to the fire and a dispatcher advised them that witnesses could see flames and thought they heard someone inside yelling for help.
When deputies arrived, fire crews were on the scene. Several fire departments helped keep the fire damage mostly to the one apartment before bringing it under control.
The sheriff’s office says the one person found in the apartment possibly died from smoke inhalation. No identifying information about the person was released.
The sheriff and the Jefferson Township Fire Department are investigating.
