Murder charge dropped in drive-by killing of Cleveland boy

CLEVELAND (AP) — Prosecutors in Cleveland have dropped charges against a man arrested in the drive-by shooting that killed a 3-year-old boy last year.

Court records show the case against 23-year-old Aaron Dunnings, of Warrensville Heights, was dismissed Tuesday. A prosecutor’s spokesman says the investigation is ongoing. He wouldn’t say why the office chose not to seek a grand jury indictment at this stage.

No attorney was listed for Dunnings, who was charged with aggravated murder in the death of Major Howard.

The 3-year-old was shot in the chest Sept. 15 while sitting in a parked car in what police say was a gang-related incident. A woman sitting in the car was wounded.

Another man is being sought in the shooting.

Dunnings is being transported to face drug charges in another county.
