Police: Ohio inmate accused of setting fire to jail blanket

CLEVELAND (AP) — Police say a northeast Ohio inmate is accused of setting fire to a blanket in his jail cell.

Cleveland police say no one was injured in the small fire at the Justice Center early Sunday.

Cleveland.com (http://bit.ly/20qooJf ) reports a corrections officer said he heard banging and smelled smoke in the man’s cell before finding the cotton blanket ablaze. Police report the officer extinguished the flames and said he saw the inmate throw a lighter into the toilet and flush it.

Investigators say a search of the inmate found rolling papers often used for cigarettes. Authorities say it wasn’t immediately clear how the inmate got the lighter and papers into the jail. An investigation continues.

Police say the man had been jailed for allegedly trespassing at the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland.
