CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. (AP) — A historic cottage on the grounds of western New York’s Chautauqua Institution is now the property of the retreat’s fundraising arm.
The institution says the Chautauqua Foundation has acquired the Lewis Miller Cottage that was the home of a Chautauqua co-founder and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
The institution says the purchase of the 1875 cottage was made possible with a gift from member Thomas Hagen. The amount wasn’t disclosed.
Institution President Tom Becker says the Miller Cottage will be preserved.
