CINCINNATI (AP) — The mother of a 4-year-old girl who died days after being found unresponsive in the bathroom of their home has been indicted on aggravated murder and other charges in Cincinnati.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters (DEE’-turs) says 24-year-old Britney Mayes could be sentenced to life in prison without parole if convicted of all charges. The Cincinnati woman also is charged with two murder counts and one child endangering count.
Mayes is jailed on $2 million bond. Her attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment on the indictment announced Wednesday.
Mayes’ daughter, Avery, was found unresponsive in a bathtub July 29 and was taken to a hospital. She died Aug. 1.
Prosecutors say Mayes was convicted on a 2012 child endangering charge after the same child had head injuries.
