TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A man charged with murder in the 2012 slaying of his wife in Ohio and recently extradited back to the state from his native Canada is scheduled for a court hearing in Toledo.
The hearing for 33-year-old Kyle Sheppard is scheduled Aug. 10 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. A municipal court judge on Thursday said the case would be sent to the court where Sheppard was indicted in 2012. Court records don’t show an attorney for Sheppard.
Authorities allege Sheppard strangled 29-year-old Katie Sheppard because he suspected her of cheating on him. Her body was found Nov. 2, 2012, at the couple’s Toledo home.
Authorities say Sheppard drove to Saguenay, Quebec, where he surrendered to police days afterward. A Canadian appeals court in June denied his extradition challenges.
