Documents: Suspect in slaying hit officer, tried to take gun

CINCINNATI (AP) — Court documents say a man charged in the killing of a 17-year-old struck a Cincinnati police officer in the face after trying to take the officer’s gun from his holster.

Authorities say 23-year-old Thomas Robinson was arrested last week in the early morning shooting death of Joseph Armstrong Jr. He’s also facing an assault charge stemming from the struggle with police.

Hamilton County court documents indicate officers were exchanging Robinson’s handcuffs in an interview room when he grabbed the officer’s gun and hit the officer in the face.

He was arraigned Wednesday on multiple charges including murder and is being held at the Hamilton County Jail.

Attorney Richard Magnus said Friday it’s still very early in the case, which is headed to a grand jury.
