Remains of Ohio man missing since 2002 found in rural field

LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say they’ve recovered the remains of an Ohio man who has been missing since 2002 and they believe his friend — who is serving multiple life sentences for several murder cases in West Virginia — killed him.

Clarence Thomas, of Lorain, was reported missing in early 2003 — months after the 31-year-old disappeared from the Cleveland suburb. Authorities say they found his remains on Wednesday at a burial site in a rural Lorain County field.

Police say Thomas’ friend was the last person to him alive and that the friend told his family Thomas had been killed by someone over unpaid drug debts.

Authorities will try to determine Thomas’ cause of death. Police say charges are likely after the coroner’s office completes its investigation.
