MONTPELIER, Ohio (AP) — A sheriff says an officer fatally shot a man armed with a gun after deputies went to the man’s northwest Ohio home to check on reports that someone at that location might harm himself or others.
Williams County Sheriff Steven Towns’ statement says the shooting Thursday occurred just north of Montpelier. The identities of the man and the officer weren’t immediately released.
Towns said the man brandished what appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle at deputies responding to a report from a health care facility that an irate caller sounded like he might hurt himself or others with a weapon. The sheriff wouldn’t say whether the man fired his weapon.
The sheriff said the investigation into the shooting was continuing. A message seeking additional comment Friday wasn’t immediately returned.
