Body of man, 39, recovered in SW Ohio after tubing accident

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say the body of a man who had gone for a late-night tubing ride has been recovered from a Butler County creek.

County Sheriff Richard K. Jones said the body of 35-year-old Joseph Daniel Earnest was found near a bank of Four Mile Creek at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Earnest and a friend had entered the creek in their inner tubes near the village of New Miami around 10 p.m. Friday.

Earnest’s companion, 39-year-old James Johnson, said the two got separated in the dark. Johnson was not sure whether Earnest had exited the water upstream or fallen in.

Water rescue workers found Earnest’s body in an area with swift-moving currents. The water ranged from knee deep to about chest level.

An investigation is ongoing.
