Motorcycle officer killed near Columbus lost control on ramp

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Witnesses are telling investigators that a suburban Columbus police officer killed in a motorcycle crash lost control of his motorcycle and fell to his death from an overpass.

Hilliard police say 16-year veteran Sean Johnson was killed Thursday during an on-duty training exercise.

The crash happened along Interstate 270, northeast of Columbus.

The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1TqFqlt ) that investigators don’t know what caused Johnson to veer into a concrete wall on the ramp.

The 46-year-old Johnson was with three other motorcycle officers on the training ride.

Investigators say they don’t think speed was a factor and there was no indication that anyone was operating in an unsafe manner.
