Head-on crash on Ohio interstate leaves 1 dead

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police say a tractor trailer has crashed head-on with a vehicle that was traveling the wrong direction on an Ohio interstate, leaving one person dead and another critically injured.

Columbus police say a man lost control of his Chevrolet Venture on Interstate 71 just before 11 p.m. Friday, struck a concrete wall on the left side of the southbound lanes and then drove northbound in the southbound lanes without headlights. Officials say the tractor trailer driven by 62-year-old Steven Harriman struck the vehicle head-on, and both the driver and his passenger were ejected from the Venture.

The driver of the Venture, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Kellee Hendricks, was taken to Mt. Carmel West Hospital in critical condition.

Another vehicle was involved in the crash, and its driver was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The cause of accident was being investigated.
