Officials to release Ohio’s April unemployment, jobs data

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — State officials are set to announce Ohio’s unemployment rate and other jobs data for last month.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is scheduled to release April unemployment and hiring figures on Friday.

The state’s unemployment rate for March was 5.1 percent, up from 5 percent in February.

That was less than the nation’s unemployment rate, which was 5.5 percent for April.

Friday’s Ohio data was expected to include information about job gains and losses in various sectors.

Ohio had 294,000 unemployed workers for March, compared with 285,000 in February.

Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 18,300 over the month to more than 5.49 million.
