Ohio resort plans new lodge for building destroyed in fire

ZANESFIELD, Ohio (AP) — The operator of a western Ohio ski resort is finalizing design plans for a $6.5 million lodge to replace a building destroyed by fire last September.

The Lima News reports (http://bit.ly/1r1RYZ5 ) that Peak Resorts is planning to build a lodge at Mad River Mountain that’s nearly twice the size of the old lodge.

A temporary structure was erected after the fire to accommodate skiers and visitors last winter at the resort near Bellefontaine about 50 miles northwest of Columbus.

Construction on the new lodge is expected to begin next month. The company hopes work will be completed by Nov. 1.

Investigators haven’t determined what caused the fire and say they can’t rule out discarded smoking materials or electrical problems.
