CINCINNATI (AP) — Ohio’s Republican U.S. senator plans to discuss efforts to increase health and safety for workers during a Cincinnati event.
Rob Portman will visit the National Institute for Occupation Safety and Health facility on Friday. NIOSH employs about 550 people in the Cincinnati area.
On Thursday, Portman was in Cleveland, where he met with officials about the ongoing conflict over dumping of dredged material by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. An investigation is underway by a Senate subcommittee that he chairs.
Portman is facing a re-election battle this year against Democratic former Gov. Ted Strickland. It’s a race being watched nationally as Democrats try to win back control of the Senate.
