Man believed to be ex-Arizona lawmaker held in Alaska death

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A man believed to be a former Arizona state legislator is charged with murder in the death of a man in a hunting party near Alaska’s capital city.

The Juneau Empire reports ( 53-year-old Mark De Simone is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Duilio Antonio “Tony” Rosales at Excursion Inlet, a remote hunting spot 35 miles northwest of Juneau.

A member of the party found Rosales dead from two gunshot wounds to the back of the head.

According to an affidavit, another man in the party claimed De Simone said: “I shot Tony. I shot him. It’s my fault.”

Assistant District Attorney Amy Paige tells The Associated Press that their investigation has revealed the accused man is also a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives. An email sent after business hours to the public defender agency in Juneau wasn’t immediately returned.
