MECHANICSBURG – Running 4 Life presented a $5,000 check to help with expenses to Mayci Powell, 19, a 2016 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, before the start of a Volley for a Cure volleyball game between Mechanicsburg and West Jefferson girls volleyball teams.

In 2015 Mayci was injured in a car crash and needed surgery to repair injuries to her face. In January of this year, she went to the doctor with what was thought to be a sinus condition. She was diagnosed with a mass behind her eyes, nose and forehead She had surgery for the Olfactory Neuroblastoma in June at OSU Hospital. In July she had a second surgery after a mass was found in her lymph nodes. She then had radiation treatments in Cincinnati. Soon she will have scans to check her progress.

Mayci remains upbeat and loves hanging out and having a good time with family and friends. She wears a bracelet with her favorite thought, “No one fights alone!”

The Volley for a Cure was started in 2006 by a couple of friends to raise awareness about breast cancer and to provide information and education about early detection for women. The volleyball matches are to raise awareness and funds.

Mechanicsburg Assistant Coach Victoria Monroe said, “It’s more than volleyball.” Monies raised go to the Susan G. Komen and affiliates for breast cancer research.
