45 Blue Knights earn MEC academic awards

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced winter and spring all-conference academic teams on Thursday from league headquarters.

In total, 45 Urbana University student-athletes from men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball earned recognition for their efforts in the classroom.

The league academic honors are broken down into two lists, including the All-MEC Academic Team (3.70-4.00 GPA) and the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll (3.25-3.69 GPA).

UU had 20 individuals work their way on to the All-MEC Academic Team, which is eight more than last year, while an additional 25 Blue Knights landed on the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

Awards correction

The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field awards were announced incorrectly in Thursday’s Urbana Daily Citizen. The correct awards are:

Most Valuable Athlete: Janie Kopus and Lydia Moell. Scholar athlete and Team Impact award: Katie Hartsel. Most improved was Addy Johnson and the Hustle awards went to Taylor Lauck and Payton Umphries.
