Schultz, Rabenstein to sign letters of intent

WL-S senior Adam Schultz will sign a letter of intent to play football at Ohio Northern University on Monday, May 8 at 12:05 p.m. in the WL-S High School media center.

WL-S senior Ashley Rabenstein will sign a letter of intent to play soccer at Otterbein University on Tuesday, May 9 at 12:05 p.m. in the WL-S media center.

M’burg baseball falls

CEDARVILLE – Mechanicsburg played Cedarville in a non-conference game on Wednesday, despite being conference rivals. It was an extra contest played as a tune-up game for tournaments. The boys in purple and gold lost, 8-7.

“It was a fun game, it was back and forth,” M’burg Bryan Eyink said.

For M’burg, Matt Myers was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored and Keane Dunn was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Mechanicsburg (12-8) hosts Fairlawn on Monday in the sectional tournament.

WL-S baseball wins

WL-S scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Fairbanks, 2-1, on Wednesday in OHC baseball.

Winning pitcher Ben Hyland doubled to lead off the bottom of the 6th. Thomas Allen then lined a deep single to left center that plated Hyland to tie the game. Chase Humphrey smashed a double to the gap scoring Allen from 1st. That was all the Tigers would need as Tyler Louden came on in relief of Hyland to slam the door, striking out 2, walking one and ending the game on a deep fly ball to center with an outstanding diving catch made by Levi Moell.

The 6 WL-S senior players, Dillon Callicoat, Hyland, Humphrey, Louden, Brandon Orahood and Ethan Smith were all honored in a short ceremony before the game.

UHS baseball wins

LEWISTOWN – Urbana defeated Indian Lake, 9-6, in CBC baseball on Wednesday.

Logan Rooney was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI for the Hillclimbers. Caleb Peterson had 3 RBI and Seth Mangus added 2 RBI.

JH track

The West Liberty-Salem junior high boys track team finished 2nd at a quad meet on Tuesday.

For the Tigers, Cooper Havens was 1st in the 100m, 200m and 400m, Nick Burden was 1st in the high jump, 1600m and 800m, the 4×400 team of Baldwin, McGill, Brown, and Hudson was 1st.

The Tigers will compete at the Anna Relays on Saturday.

8-u baseball

Peoples beat Mack Wright DDS, 2-1. Standouts for Peoples were River Smith, Alex McCray and Colin Jenkins.
