Turf renovation at UU to begin on May 8

The Urbana University Department of Athletics announced Tuesday a synthetic turf installation project for Urbana University Stadium is scheduled to begin on May 8.

UU has chosen The Motz Group from Cincinnati to replace and install the synthetic turf surface. The two sides collaborated for the original construction of UU Stadium in 2006, and this will be the first field renovation in the stadium’s 11-year history.

“We are very excited to partner once again with The Motz Group for the replacement of our synthetic turf,” said UU Executive Director of Athletics Larry Cox. “With the increased awareness of head trauma and concussions it was extremely important that we opt for a turf with cutting edge technology that will provide the safest environment possible.

“It will also enhance the visibility and marketability of our athletic programs as well as provide additional opportunities for a number of student and community activities.”

The new surface will feature the CrossFlex, a dual fiber system equipped with wear-resistant slit-film and monofilament fibers. Infilled with an engineered mix of crumb rubber and sand, this system is fully practical for a field built around durability and performance.

“The Motz Group is proud to once again be selected as Urbana University’s sports field specialist on their upcoming synthetic turf replacement. Being able to provide a new sports surface that will further build Urbana’s athletic legacy is a true honor,” said Matt Hogg, Field Consultant for The Motz Group. “The new CrossFlex Synthetic Turf System will provide the university with a high-performance sports surface offering unmatched playability and trusted durability for multiple sports.”

UU is the latest in the region to join the Motz family, including University of Dayton, University of Cincinnati, Mount St. Joseph University, Otterbein University and Wright State University.
