Dodane’s effort not enough as Indians fall

MECHANICSBURG – Benjamin Logan defeated Mechanicsburg, 65-59, Monday night in non-league girls basketball, despite the best efforts of Mikayla Dodane.

Dodane scored 29 points and hit a school-record 8 three-pointers while shooting 88.9 percent from beyond the arc. Dodane’s sharp-shooting topped Kim Miller’s 1995-‘96 record of 7 made treys. Elly Schipfer added 18 points for the Indians.

Mechanicsburg travels to Fairbanks on Thursday.

Triad beats Catholic Central

NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad defeated Springfield Catholic Central, 52-19, in OHC girls basketball on Monday.

Jenna Ober scored 19 points and Alea Ferguson scored 14 for the Cardinals.

Triad (5-12, 2-10) will host West Liberty-Salem on Saturday.

Urbana bowlers win

Urbana defeated Greenon, 2,662-2,140, in CBC boys bowling Monday.

For UHS (14-1), Taylor Armstrong rolled a 202-226/428, Kyle Schrader had a 202-217/419, Skyler Reisinger recorded a 197-218/415 and Blaine Arms contributed a 180 game.

The Urbana girls beat Greenon, 2,259-1,851.

For UHS (6-7), Paige Stokes had a 202-266/468, Brittany Gaver rolled a 177-169/346 and Kayla Evans had a 193 game.

WL-S indoor track sets records

The West Liberty-Salem girls indoor track and field team opened its season with a strong showing at Tiffin University on Sunday. Senior Morgan Freyhof set a school record in the 60-meter dash, placing 5th in 8.24.

Senior Leah Cole also set a school record in the 600-meter run, placing 5th in 1:54.04.

Junior Katie Hartsel set a career personal best of 5:59.49 in the 1,600-meter run, placing 7th.

WL-S will compete at Bowling Green State University on Feb. 21.

WL-S jayvee girls win

The West Liberty-Salem jayvee girls basketball team beat Greenon, 22-10. Maddie Estes and Laine Godwin each scored 6 points for WL-S.

Junior high basketball

The Urbana 7th grade girls lost to Shawnee, 23-22.

The Urbana 8th grade girls lost to Shawnee, 38-9.

The Triad 7th grade girls beat Catholic Central, 48-18, in the OHC tournament. Cati LeVan had 19 points and Frani LeVan scored 10 for the Cardinals.

Triad’s 8th grade girls lost to West Liberty-Salem, 31-19, in the OHC tournament. Kendell Hughes scored 9 points and Olivia Butz had 4 for Triad.
