The Urbana University softball team split a pair of close games with non-conference foe Ashland at Blue Knight Softball Field Wednesday afternoon. Each team recorded a 3-2 come-from-behind win with the Blue Knights grabbing the first game and the Eagles taking Game 2.

UU moves to 13-15 overall and will return to action at home again this weekend. UU takes on West Virginia State on Friday and Charleston Saturday for two Mountain East Conference doubleheaders.

Game 1 (UU 3, AU 2)

With UU down 2-0 Caitlyn Stoner launched her fourth home run, a two-run shot to center field, to even the score in the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Knights prevented a run in the top half of the seventh and then Margo Jackson produced a walk-off single in the bottom half, scoring Courtney Stewart after her one-out triple.

Ashland had taken a 2-0 lead on home run in the third, as UU pitchers Carly Allen and Courtney Stewart combined to allow eight hits. Stewart earned the win in the circle along with scoring the winning run.

Jackson and Stewart led UU with two hits apiece, while Jenna VanHoose reached base on three occasions. Stoner (HR), Mykee Holtz (2B), Courtney Kennedy, and Bailee Faulkner also registered a base knock.

Game 2 (AU 3, UU 2)

The Blue Knights scored two runs right off the bat in the first, but were held scoreless the rest of the way. Stewart led off with a single and later scored, along with VanHoose, after an error and pair of walks.

Ashland scored once in the second, and then tied the game in the fourth. The Eagles pushed across the go-ahead run an inning later and held on over the final three frames.

Stewart had two of UU’s four total hits, while Faulkner and Riley Curtis had the other base knocks. Faulkner doubled in the sixth with one out but was forced out at third base to prevent the Blue Knights from advancing the tying run.
