Blue Knights endure rough day on road

Wise, W. Va. – Urbana University dropped a pair of one-run MEC baseball games to the University of Virginia-Wise on Sunday, 6-5 and 13-12.

In the first contest, UU jumped out to a 4-2 lead after an inning, but the home team put a four-spot on the board in the bottom of the third to cruise to a 6-5 victory.

Brent West was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI for the Blue Knights.

In the second game, UU went up 7-0 after one inning. The visitors were able to put another run on the board an inning later, but Wise scored four in the sixth and six in the eighth to knot the game at 12-12.

The game went to 11 innings, where Wise was able to squeak a run across for the victory.

Nick Gallagher was 3 for 5 with a pair of RBI, Isac Franklin was 2 for 5 with an RBI, Tanner Davis was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and West was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI for UU.

UU softball splits

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – The Urbana University softball team split a pair of MEC games with West Liberty on Sunday. The Blue Knights won the first contest, 3-1, and lost the second, 9-3.

In the first game, UU put across two runs in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Riley Curtis was 3 for 4 and Margo Jackson had 2 RBI for the Blue Knights. Carly Allen went the distance pitching, allowing one earned run and four hits while striking out three.

In the second game, West Liberty exploded for six runs in the fourth inning and out-hit UU, 11-7, to earn the win.

Jackson was 2 for 4 with an RBI for UU and Mykee Holtz hit a home run.
