WL-S boys knock off Southeastern, 63-53

WEST LIBERTY – The Tigers picked up a key OHC win Wednesday night, beating Southeastern, 63-53, in boys basketball.

The Trojans led, 20-12, at the end of the first quarter and 26-21 at the half.

Southeastern (11-2, 6-1) owned a 38-36 lead heading into the fourth period.

“We didn’t do much right in the first quarter,” said WL-S Coach Darrin Leichty. “From that point on the guys responded and did things right from our scouting report. We stepped up and made some big free throws when we were tired. Defensively we moved as well as we have all season in the last three quarters.”

For the Tigers (9-2, 2-0), Kannon Stillings had 24 points, Tyler Louden had 14 and Austin Miller added 10.

Southeastern won the jayvee game, 51-42. Bryan Parks had 15 points for the Tigers.

UHS wins in wrestling

Urbana defeated Springfield, 44-33, in non-league wrestling on Wednesday.

Earning wins for the Hillclimbers in contested matches were Ezra Lee (132 pounds), Mitchell Moyer (145), Timmy Sidders (170), Jack Harris (195) and Jack Delong (220).

Junior high basketball

The Triad 7th grade boys beat Springfield Catholic Central, 35-22. JC Alexander had 7 points and Wyatt Cave had 6 for Triad.

The Triad 8th graders lost, 27-25. Jacob Simonelli had 9 points and Jordan Simonelli had 6 for Triad.

The Urbana 7th grade girls beat Bellefontaine, 41-26.

The Urbana 8th graders lost, 31-4.
