Urbana snaps victory drought

Urbana pasted visiting Benjamin Logan in the Hillclimbers’ return to CBC/MRD boys basketball Tuesday night, winning by a convincing 73-43 margin.

The Hillclimbers shared the basketball from start to finish, often passing up a good look at a three-pointer or a drive to the hoop by dumping it off to an open player on the block.

“That was the biggest thing tonight – sharing the ball,” UHS Coach Jeremy Dixon said. “Very good, well-rounded team effort tonight.”

Urbana (6-4, 4-0) also played well defensively and pounded the offensive glass – a recipe for success no matter which teams are playing.

“Najhea (Honore) did a really good job. He always does. He’s a big-time rebounder,” Dixon said. “It’s frustrating every day in practice, too, because none of our guys can box him out either.” Honore finished with 11 rebounds.

The Hillclimbers opened a wide 37-14 lead going into halftime, then coasted throughout much of the second half.

“For sure, the first half was excellent,” Dixon said. “It did get a little sloppy in the fourth, but even throughout the game tonight we were trying some different combinations.”

Urbana entered the final quarter with a 60-27 lead and had already begun the process of substituting some fresh bodies into the game.

Jordan Underwood led Urbana with 16 points. Cameron Logwood had 13 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds and Levi Boettcher had 12 points.

Urbana also won the jayvee game, 45-35. Dakota Hower had 17 points and Reid Taylor scored 14 in that contest for UHS.

Urbana hosts Greenon on Friday – a change from the original schedule which had the ‘Climbers traveling that night.
