WL-S, Triad advance at volleyball sectional

BROOKVILLE – West Liberty-Salem beat Carlisle, 25-8, 25-10, 25-9, in the opening round of the Division III volleyball sectional on Saturday.

For the Tigers, Tory Cordell had 9 kills and 2 blocks, Alex Burton had 7 kills and 3 aces, Regan Hormann had 3 kills, Kaylee Harrison had 1 kill and 1 block, Hallie Strapp had 1 kill, 8 digs and 8 aces, Olivia Ames had 14 digs, 1 ace and 2 assists, Breann Koons had 8 assists and 1 ace and Allie Yoder had 12 assists and 4 aces.

WL-S will play Milton-Union here today at 7:30 p.m.

Triad upset Preble Shawnee, 25-20, 26-24, 24-26, 16-25, 15-8, in the Division III volleyball sectional here on Saturday.

The Cardinals will play Northwestern here on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

At the Division IV volleyball sectional at Troy on Saturday, Mechanicsburg lost to Emmanuel Christian, 25-18, 25-10, 25-11.

JH volleyball

The West Liberty-Salem 8th graders lost to Fairbanks, 23-25, 25-12, 25-11, in the championship match of the OJC tournament on Saturday. For the Tigers (11-5), Olivia Muirhead was 7 for 11 serving with 2 aces, 3 kills, 1 dig and 8 assists; Emily Scott was 10 for 15 serving with 3 aces and 4 digs; Madeline Hutton was 4 for 9 serving with 2 aces, 2 kills and 2 assists and Selena Weaver had 2 kills, 2 digs and 1 assist.
