Urbana’s Harris signs with Kent State

Urbana High School senior Jack Harris recently signed his national letter of intent to wrestle at Kent State University.

Harris will be attending Kent State next year and is expected to wrestle in the 184- or 197-pound weight class.

Harris’ high school accomplishments going into his senior season at Urbana include placement at the Ohio State Tournament of 5th, 2nd and 2nd.

He’s a three time winner of the sectional, district, CBC and GMVWA Holiday Tournaments with a combined record of 141-9.

He also holds the school record for takedowns in a season with 171.

At the national level, Harris has placed 2nd at the USA Cadet National Folkstyle Tournament, 6th at the FILA Cadet National Freestyle Tournament, 2nd at the USA Cadet National Freestyle Tournament, 3rd at the USA Junior National Freestyle Tournament, 6th and 4th at Super32 and was 11-1 each of the last two years at the Disney Duals – All Star Division.

Junior high basketball

Triad’s 7th grade girls beat Greeneview, 53-8. Frani LeVan had 16 points, Baylie Plank had 15 points and Cati LeVan had 10 points for Triad (1-0).

Triad’s 8th graders lost, 44-9. For Triad (0-1), Olivia Butz had 3 points.

Urbana’s 7th grade girls beat Indian Valley, 22-13. Sam Rooney had 16 points for Urbana.

Graham’s 7th grade girls lost to Mad River, 30-9.

Ariel Cupps had three points for Graham.

Jayvee basketball

West Liberty-Salem’s jayvee girls basketball team beat Urbana, 29-16.

For the Tigers, Laine Godwin had 13 points and 6 rebounds and Paige Shafer had 6 points and 9 rebounds.

For Urbana (1-1), Marissa Horn was the leading scorer and Jessica Beverly was the leading rebounder.
