ST. PARIS – Graham and Greenon came together and formed Team Blake to raise $12,000 for a local student battling brain cancer. The home stands were filled for homecoming Friday night and the Falcons didn’t disappoint, notching their first victory of the season, 45-12.
Graham fifth-grade student Blake Barr is undergoing proton radiation treatments in Philadelphia. Money was collected from fans Friday night to help offset costs of the Barr family’s effort to access treatment.
The Falcons began their scoring on a 41-yard pass from Gage Braun to Cam Van Hoose at the 7:55 mark of the first quarter and a 7-0 lead after the extra-point kick. Graham scored again on a 4-yard TD run by Lane Thompson at the 6:27 mark of the first quarter for a 14-0 lead.
Greenon’s offense struggled early, and special teams paid the price when Juan Cervantes’ punt was blocked by Graham’s Michael Shook deep in Knight territory. Field position was in Graham’s favor most of the first quarter and eventually Thompson plowed in on a 4-yard TD run with 1:34 to play in the period for a 21-0 lead. Thompson’s TD was made possible by a long pass play on the drive from Braun to Austin Brayton went all the way to the Knight 10.
Greenon (0-7) scored in the second quarter on Levi Morrison’s one-yard run. Graham blocked the extra point kick, but Greenon was on the board, 21-6.
The Falcons scored in the second period when Braun connected with John Hess for a 13-yard strike with 3:30 left until intermission to make it 27-6.
Graham added points with 1:09 to play in the first half when Braun passed for a TD to Tyler Powell for a 33-6 lead.
Brayton scored a TD early in the third quarter as Graham extended its lead to 39-6 with 10:38 left in the third quarter. Brayton scored again near the end of the third quarter and Graham held a 45-6 lead.
The Falcons (1-6) play at Ben Logan next Friday night.
Mechanicsburg 42, Central 7
SPRINGFIELD – Unbeaten Mechanicsburg defeated Springfield Catholic Central, 42-7, Friday night in OHC football.
In the first quarter for the Indians, Kaleb Romero scored on a 31-yard run and Joey Mascadri added a one-yard TD carry.
In the second quarter, Romero added a 22-yard TD run and Dustin Knapp had a four-yard scoring jaunt. Romero’s two scoring runs give him 69 total touchdowns for his career to surpass the previous school record of 68 established by former teammate Aeryton Erwin from 2011-2014.
Central moved deep into Indian territory late in the first half, but Mechanicsburg’s Tyler Wetzel came up with an interception at the goal line.
Romero connected with Alex Rhine on a 16-yard TD pass early in the third quarter to give the Indians a 35-0 lead, and Knapp ran it in from a yard out early in the fourth period to put the visitors up, 42-7.
Mechanicsburg (7-0, 4-0) hosts Northeastern next Friday night.
WL-S 57, Cedarville 0
WEST LIBERTY – Luke Woods passed for 4 TDs and ran for another in the first quarter and a half as WL-S pounded winless Cedarville, 57-0, Friday night in OHC football.
The Tigers opened up a 50-0 lead with seven minutes still remaining in the second quarter.
Brandon Wolfe rushed for 120 yards on eight carries and the Tigers had 360 total yards compared to minus-53 for Cedarville.
WL-S (3-4, 2-2) hosts Triad next Friday night.
Southeastern 36, Triad 34
NORTH LEWISBURG – Southeastern needed a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to beat Triad, 36-34, Friday night in OHC football.
The game was back and forth throughout. Triad (1-6, 1-3) owned a 27-17 lead at the half.
Briley Harlan passed for 143 yards and a TD and rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals.
Triad had 444 total yards compared to 348 for the Trojans.
