Triad girls finish second

NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad’s girls cross country team finished second at the Triad Invitational on Tuesday. Mechanicsburg was fourth on the girls’ side, while Urbana was eighth on the boys’ side and Mechanicsburg was ninth.

For Triad’s girls, Holly Cole finished 2nd (20:55), Alea Ferguson was 8th (22:38), Summer Doty 10th (22:56), Sandi Alspaugh 12th (23:26) and Karen Alspaugh 63rd (30:40).

For M’burg’s girls, Sophie Boeck was 7th (22:31), Stephanie Dietrich 14th (23:30), Abbey Kramer 17th (24:09), Gloria Terry 21st (24:28) and Emily Wilson 29th (25:07). Kaitlyn Troth and Isabelle Dietrich also ran.

For the Urbana boys, Daniel Westcott was 24th (19:06), Austin Rooney 39th (20:09), Alec Freeman 40th (20:10), Ethan Burnside 60th (21:57) and Hudson Stouffer 62nd (22:08). Noah Booze also ran.

For the M’burg boys, JP Kent was 38th (20:03), Houston Fraley 44th (20:22), Isaac Bryant 49th (20:30), Josh Nunamaker 66th (22:18) and JP Marsh 74th (22:50). Jason Surmaceviz, Drake Cary, Dakota Lay, Alex Miller and Mason Ritchason also ran.

The WL-S junior high girls won at Triad, taking 4 out of the top 5 spots in a race of 70 runners.

Katelyn Stapleton was 1st in 11:54; Megan Adams was 2nd in 12:35; Madison Bahan was 3rd in 13:13 and Hallie Smith was 5th in 14:03.

The WL-S boys were 2nd. Dylan Lauck was 2nd in 11:51; Isaac Brown was 11th in 13:04 amd Hayden Kennedy was 13th in 13:10.

UHS prevails in volleyball

Urbana beat Greenon, 25-19 25-17 21-25 25-17, in CBC volleyball on Tuesday.

For UHS (9-6), Hunter Rogan had 34 kills, Bridget Ofori had 4 kills and 10 digs, Mackenzie Bean had 11 kills, Taylor Adams had 43 assists and Olivia Dunham had 10 digs.

Greenon’s jayvees won, 25-12. 26-28. 25-11.

For UHS, Maddy Johnson had 9 kills, Sam Zaborowski had 7 kills, Tian Johnson had 11 assists, Jennah Adams had 6 digs and Jessica Murray had 6 aces and 4 digs.

Tigers top Cardinals

West Liberty-Salem defeated Triad, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-16, in volleyball on Monday.

For the Tigers, Kaylee Harrison had 9 kills, 3 digs and 2 blocks, Regan Hormann had 7 kills and 3 digs, Tory Cordell had 7 kills, 6 digs and an ace, Alex Burton had 4 kills, 10 digs and 2 aces, Olivia Ames had 21 digs, 3 assists and 3 aces, Hallie Strapp had 16 digs, 4 kills and an ace, Allie Yoder had 12 assists and an ace and Breann Koons had 15 assists.

For the Cardinals, Madison Dolby had 10 kills and 15 digs, Bri Eaton had 8 kills and Ali Dixon had 9 digs.

Triad won the jayvee match 14-25, 25-21, 28-26.

Jaelen Meeker had 19 assists and 6 digs for the Tigers.

UHS wins in tennis

Urbana defeated Catholic Central, 4-1, in non-league girls tennis.

Winning for the Climbers were Haylee Johns at 1st singles, Morgan Lattimer at 2nd singles, Olivia Krieger/Bri Ussher at 1st doubles and Rachel Pickering/Ashlynn Dunn at 2nd doubles.

Triad’s Holly Cole (5157) challenges for the lead early in Tuesday’s high school girls run at Triad High School. Cole finished second in 20:55 to help the Cardinals finish second in the team standings.
