The West Liberty-Salem boys and girls cross country teams will be running in the Division III regional meet at Troy Stadium on Saturday.

At last week’s district meet, the Tiger boys qualified by placing sixth out of 27 teams.

Placers for WL-S included Joey Adams 2nd 16:28.31, Michael Conley 39th 17:58.93, Nick Williams 45th 18:11.76, Ross Kelley 47th 18:14.09, Isaac Smith 57th 18:32.37, Andrew Landis 74th 18:54.30 and Charlie Williams 116th 20:08.65.

“Going into that meet we wanted to finish top 4, so to finish 6th was very disappointing,” said WL-S Coach Mike Louden. “We’re most certainly going to use (the district) meet as a reminder that distractions throughout the week must be pushed aside and dealt with more appropriately and responsibly so that the team doesn’t lose focus of its main goals.

“We get another opportunity (this) week (at the regional) and the course is much more conducive to their normal racing plans. I’m extremely excited to see our results when we get back to doing what makes our team great, and that is working as one,” he added.

The Division III boys race will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The WL-S girls qualified for the regional meet for the 19th time in 21 years by placing eighth at last week’s district.

Placers for the Tigers included Reghan Bieleski 10th in 20:13, Caylee Karg 36th in 21:24, Lauren Fowler 57th in 22:11, Jenna Magnuson 64th in 22:31, Leah Cole 70th in 22:45, Sarah Painter 72nd in 22:46 and Taylor Henault 111th in 24:17.

“One of our goals every year is to qualify for the regional meet, and this year our girls had to overcome some setbacks to get there,” said WL-S Coach Ann Vogel. “I’m proud of their perseverance and tenacity. We look forward to continuing the Big Orange tradition.”

Triad’s Holly Cole also qualified for the Division III regional by placing 26th in 21:01.64 at the district meet.

The Division III girls regional meet will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m.
