Peterson’s goal leads Urbana to victory

Urbana nipped West Liberty-Salem, 1-0, in non-league boys soccer on Tuesday.

UHS’s goal was scored by Caleb Peterson in the 65th minute.

Elias Kirker-Napiorkowski of WL-S had 4 saves and Urbana’s Tristin Williams had 3.

WL-S girls beat Urbana

West Liberty-Salem defeated Urbana 4-3 in non-league girls soccer action on Monday.

Gabby Hollar exploded, scoring all four goals for the Tigers. Paige Shafer, Dierdre McGill, Lily Yoder and Kenedie Cox offered up assists.

For Urbana, Marra Evans and Sam Tracy each scored in the first half, with Taje Mack scoring after the break. Assists came from Kenleigh White, Madisyn Horn and Tessa Armstrong.

Magdaline Perry had 9 saves between the posts for the Hillclimbers.

“We went down 3-0 in the first 10 minutes,” UHS Coach Brandon Deskins said. “We made a defensive adjustment and the kids just responded. You never want to lose, but our girls played well against a very quality opponent.”

The Tigers’ jayvee team also won, 6-0. Courtney Neer and Caidryn Wade each scored 2 goals, while Julia Ames and Tori Wilson also scored.

West Liberty-Salem (1-0-0) will play Miami East on Saturday at Crew Stadium in Columbus.

Graham girls draw

Graham traveled to Miami East and played the Vikings to a 2-2 draw in non-league girls soccer.

Alannah Miller volleyed home an extra opportunity off of a corner kick to put the Falcons up 1-0 before Miami East scored to even it at 1-1 before the intermission.

Taylor White scored in the second half, but the Vikings drew even with a penalty kick. Graham’s Ashton Curnutte had 25 saves on the evening.

Graham plays at Stebbins before returning to local action against Urbana on Aug. 29.

UHS girls tennis wins

Urbana defeated London, 3-2, in non-league girls tennis on Tuesday.

Morgan Lattimer at second singles, Katie Asper at third singles and the first doubles team of Bri Ussher/Olivia Krieger earned wins for the Hillclimbers (1-1).

Triad golfers prevail

The Triad girls defeated Greeneview and Northeastern in a golf tri-match at Woodland on Tuesday. Triad (3-2 OHC) was led by match medalist Macy Linscott with a 49, Jess Woodard had a 56, Kayleigh Boldman a 61 and Kallie Smith a 65 for a team total of 231.

Tigers, Indians compete in tri-match

West Liberty-Salem shot 174, Mechanicsburg shot 178 and Northwestern shot 189 in a boys golf tri-match on Tuesday.

For the Tigers, Dillon Callicoat had a 38, Kannon Stillings a 40, Tyler Gardner a 47 and Logan Brown a 49.

For the Indians, Caleb Westfall shot 38, Keane Dunn shot 43, Corey Bogan shot 45, Jack Shoemaker had a 52, David McMahill carded a 68 and Trent Huemmer shot an 85.

Junior high volleyball

West Liberty-Salem 8th grade volleyball beat Southeastern 25-4, 25-23. Olivia Muirhead had 9 aces, with Kaleigh Wilcox and Alexa Stoll each adding 3 aces for the Tigers.

The WL-S 7th graders lost to Southeastern, 25-21, 25-18.
