COLUMBUS – Triad sophomore Madison Dolby and Graham sophomore Mackenzie Smith qualified for the Southwest District All-Star softball team after trying out for the underclassman squad.

Dolby was selected as a shortstop and Smith as a catcher.

The team will compete alongside other districts on June 22-23 in Columbus.

“That’s one of the most prestigious honors a girl can have,” Bill Dolby, Madison’s father, said. “I just think it’s awesome.”

Nearly 100 girls tried out for the team, but only a fraction of those were selected.

“She’s just proof that hard work pays off,” Graham Coach Ralph Foster said of Smith.

The All-Star games will be attended by college coaches and scouts and will feature five games for the team played across the two days.
